What happens if my project doesn't reach its funding goal?

For a donation campaign, you can make one or more fund transfer requests whenever you like, even if your goal hasn't been reached. The goal of a donation campaign is indicative, not binding: you receive all the funds raised. It's a way to energize your campaign. You can update your goal whenever you want.

For a reward-based campaign, if the goal isn't reached, your backers are refunded automatically to their bank account. So you don't collect any money, and you have no fees to pay: it's a “zero-sum” operation.

Still thank the people who supported you (by sharing a news update, for example), to keep a positive relationship and perhaps ask for their support again if you relaunch a project on the site.

Everyone who backed the project receives an email notifying them that the campaign has been canceled and is refunded automatically.

On your side, keep in mind that not every campaign succeeds the first time. That doesn't mean your project is bad or that you should give it up.

Use this opportunity to take stock of your project and your fundraising on Ulule.

Take a few minutes to ask yourself:

- What worked?

- What didn't work, or wasn't well understood by Ululers?

- Did you follow the Ulule team's advice?

- Is your project advanced and concrete enough to make people want to support it?

- Did you estimate your network correctly? Maybe you need to talk about your project with enthusiasts over the coming months, start building a community of people ready to take part, and come back in a few months?

- Did you promote your project on specialized forums, to relevant bloggers, journalists or other influencers…?

- Were you available enough during the campaign? Did you keep your campaign lively with news updates, by answering comments and by sending personal thank-you emails?

Also remember to ask your coach any questions you have.
