Backing a project on Ulule: how to pay, what rewards, what delivery times?

On Ulule, you back crowdfunding projects: your contribution helps a person or a team make their project happen and, if the campaign offers it and you want one, you get a reward in return for your support. You pay online, directly on the campaign page, with a secure payment.

How do I pay for my contribution, and is it secure?

You pay online, at the last step of your contribution:

  1. On the campaign page, choose one or more rewards, or a free donation.
  2. Check the summary: amount, any delivery costs and the service fee.
  3. Choose your payment method and confirm.
  4. If your bank asks for it, confirm the payment (3D Secure) in your banking app or by text message.

Main payment method: bank card (Visa, Mastercard, CB, Maestro, Bancontact). Other methods may appear depending on the campaign, for example iDEAL for Dutch projects: only those shown on the payment page are available. See accepted payment methods.

Security: card payments use the 3D Secure protocol, which lets your bank ask you for strong authentication according to its own rules. For campaigns in euros, payments are processed by Mangopay, Ulule's payment service provider.

Service fee: a contribution includes a service fee of 2.2% of the total amount + €0.10 (for a campaign in euros), shown before you confirm. Learn more about the cost of a contribution.

What is a reward?

For reward-based campaigns, the reward is at the heart of how it works. It can take different forms (symbolic, physical, an experience or something exclusive) but it is never financial. You may find items related to the project in exchange for a certain amount, an experience offered for a higher amount, and of course bundles combining them into exclusive packs.

In a reward-based campaign, a contribution usually comes with one or more rewards, but you can also support the campaign with a simple donation.

Note: on Ulule, you'll also find donation and subscription campaigns that don't offer rewards. Find out more about the campaign types.

Delivery costs and times, carriers and countries served are chosen by the project team on their own.

Can I make a free donation without a reward?

If you don't want a reward, you can simply support the campaign with a free donation. This way, your whole contribution goes to the person or team behind the project to help them make it happen.

Please note, these donations are not necessarily tax-deductible: it depends on whether the organization running the campaign can issue tax receipts (in France) and offers them for this campaign. If in doubt, ask the project team!

Can I choose several rewards in one contribution?

Yes. You can select several rewards in the same campaign. After your first selection, all available rewards are shown: you can add several of them to make a single contribution.

You can also take several units of the same reward, within the available stock, if applicable.

Keep in mind that rewards don't always have the same shipping conditions (location, time and cost). Check this and, if you have any questions, contact the project team.

Can I cancel my contribution and get a refund?

Donations and subscription contributions are final and can't be canceled. However, you can cancel a subscription so you're no longer charged in the future.

For a reward-based project, Ulule guarantees a free refund of a contribution while the campaign is ongoing: until the campaign's end date, or until the end of the Extension for a contribution made during the Extension.

Once the campaign has ended and been successfully funded, Ulule can no longer cancel and refund a contribution. The reward is then subject to consumer sales law: refer to the project team's terms of sale and send any refund request directly to them.

If a reward-based campaign doesn't reach its goal, you're refunded automatically.

Donation and subscription campaigns don't have to reach a goal, and the project team can cancel them as long as no transfer has been made (and, for a donation campaign, within 6 months of going live). All contributions are then refunded automatically, service fee included.

How does delivery work?

Delivery (estimated date for reward-based campaigns, locations and any costs) is set directly by the project team. All the details are shown for each reward and when you select the reward(s) of your choice.

Keep in mind that the announced dates are estimates, not guarantees. Crowdfunding often involves some risk, since it's the campaign's success that makes the rewards possible. So remember that you don't order a product on Ulule as you would on an online store: you help a project come to life.

Can I update my delivery address?

Until the campaign ends, you can view and change a reward's delivery address directly from your account, by selecting the reward whose address you want to change.

After the campaign, please contact the project team directly to confirm the change with them if needed.

Also follow the project's news updates: teams often share delivery information there, including specific steps for address changes.

Can I contribute once the campaign has ended?

Once the end date has passed, you can no longer take part in a campaign on Ulule! But more and more reward-based campaigns offer an Extension.

In that case, it's shown on the page and you can still contribute:

Otherwise, check the project team's website and social media.
